Who Are You?

If you’ve been on the fence about reading the book Atomic Habits I’m here to tell you that you need to pick that thing up off the shelf and give it a read. If you’re not interested in reading a 200+ page book, well then, this blog post is for you…

I think one of the reasons I fell in love with this book is because the messaging so closely coincides with our messaging here at Empowered.

On your very first phone call we are already going to start talking about you and your goals. And while most people are going to jump to the easiest version of their goal:

“I want to eliminate my knee pain”, or

“I want to press overhead without shoulder pain”, or

“I want to be able to sit on the ground without low back pain”.

You should understand that we are going to push you to dig deeper.

“Why do you want to eliminate your knee pain?”

“So I can squat.”

“Why do you want to be able to squat?”

“So I can do all of the things prescribed in my workouts at the gym.”

“Why do you go to the gym?”

“I want to remain active, healthy, fit, etc.”

“Why do you want to be active/healthy/fit?”

“Being healthy equates to a full life without restrictions or second thoughts.”

“Why do you want to live your life to the fullest?”

“I want to be the best version of myself for the ones I love.”

And just like that, we have uncovered your life’s mission, your “why”, and essentially your identity.

Good news for you is that our mission here at Empowered is to help you to establish and/or maintain certain habits that coincide with your specific identity. And these habits should not be about having something, they are about becoming someone.

Becoming the best version of yourself requires you to continuously edit your beliefs, and upgrade and expand your identity. So, maybe you’ve never been someone who has a regular fitness routine or has ever lifted a barbell or carved out time for yourself every week, but what you need to ask yourself is whether or not what you are currently doing coincides with your mission in life.

If the answer is “no”, this only further reiterates our point in which you do not need an injury to be a part of the Empowered community, rather you should ask yourself if the way in which you are currently functioning is where you want to be.

So, just because doing something for yourself isn’t a part of your current routine, that doesn’t mean it can’t be. It's one thing to say I'm the type of person who wants this. It's something very different to say I'm the type of person who is this.

Good news…we’re here to help you along the way.
